I recently decided to give the Keto way of eating a go. While there are heaps of Keto recipes around now, I thought I’d make up a few of my own. I hope you love this one as much as I did. Keto Diet
I am an absolute beginner to the Keto way of eating. I recommend you do some research if you are interested in this diet. That’s because you are invited to eat a lot more fats than we are used to. I have found a great book by Martina Slajerova called: The Beginner’s KetoDiet Cookbook. She gives a very detailed (but easy to follow) explanation of how it all works.

Side Effects from Keto Diet
I have not experienced anything like the Keto flu they talk about, but I did have headaches and felt a bit flat in the late afternoon. I realised that I had been having a huge amount of carbs in my diet, and sugar!! So that explains the headaches.
The Keto way of eating I understand is about switching the way your body acquires its energy from carbohydrates and sugars, to ketones. It takes a couple of days (sometimes longer) to make the change in your body. Fats are no longer demonised, and there are loads of alternatives available to the usual way of eating. You need the fat for energy, without it you’ll be very tired and hungry.

I thought I would be craving my chocolate, morning toast with honey and freshly baked zucchini cake. Not to mention the Greek shortbread biscuits I have sitting in a blanket of icing sugar.
But, amazingly I do not feel hungry like I used to. That makes it a whole lot easier to ignore those yummy things I’ve been eating way too much of. And my goal is to make eating on the Keto diet just as delicious.
Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting is recommended along with the Keto diet. I’m not going crazy with it, the most I’ve done is 16 hours, and that was quite achievable. My reward is bacon and eggs with bocconcini cheese! You can do the Keto diet as a vegetarian, but you just have to be more careful about getting enough protein. Intermittent fasting is easier than you might think. Most of the time you are asleep, and the rest of the time is made up after your evening meal (when you’re full), and before lunch the next day. You can still have a cup of black tea or coffee.
Do you get hungry when fasting?
Hunger is common on a diet rich in carbohydrates and sugars because your body always craves more. The beauty of the Keto diet is that you actually don’t suffer from hunger! I can vouch for that.
